flyMonarch.com to introduce new baggage charges on scheduled flights
From today (19 September 2007), low fares airline, flyMonarch.com will be introducing a new baggage charge scheme for all hold baggage checked in on its scheduled flights.
In line with other UK low fares airlines, flyMonarch.com will be implementing a charge for each bag that is checked in on flights departing after 01 November 2007. Bags will be charged at £3.99 / €5.99 / CY£3.99 per bag*, per one way flight if pre-booked online, offering a £6 saving against passengers paying at the airport, where a charge of £10 / €16 / CY£10 per bag, per one way flight will apply. Hold baggage can also be pre-booked via the flyMonarch.com Call Centre on 08700 40 50 40 where bags will be charged at £8 / €12 / CY£8 per bag per one way flight.
Commenting on the introduction of the scheme, managing director of flyMonarch.com, Liz Savage, said “It is now common practice amongst airlines to charge those customers who elect to take hold baggage and by doing this we will be able to keep our flight prices low.
“Since the launch of our online check-in service earlier this year, there has been a notable reduction in the amount of hold baggage carried on our flights. Passengers are preferring to minimise the time spent in queues at the airport, opting to check in from home and by-passing the fast bag-drop desks at the airports by travelling with hand luggage only.”
Passengers on scheduled flights are still able to take advantage of flyMonarch.com’s generous hand baggage allowance which allows one carry-on bag per person up to 10kg in weight and within the standard DFT dimensions, 56cm x 45cm x 25cm.

With all the immediate replies when Ryanair makes charges I am surprised no one has even bothered to make a comment about Monarch raising more charges.
Is it because Monarch is a more "upmarket" airline that people will accept it willy nilly?0 -
I think its as Monarch say - becoming the norm- for low cost carriers. Basic price + add on for optional extras.
Its very possible to go away for a week with just 10KG hand luggage.
As long as its reflected in the fares, as often the case with Ryanair and Easyjet I dont have a proplem.0
