You may have been an innocent buyer, but the item may have not been the seller's to exchange for monies, where was the vehicle advertised?
The cycnical part of me suggests it was a bit too convenient that the seller was going abroad and you happen to be paying cash.0 -
Who was the registered keeper on the V5?
I guess the loan was secured against the car and he has stopped paying the HP?
How else would Black Horse know he had sold the car?"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

From the thread title, I'd guess it was advertised on AutoTrader.0 -
If you are an "innocent purchaser" ("a purchaser of the motor vehicle in good faith without notice of the hire-purchase or conditional sale agreement") then you would get to keep the car without any obligation to the finance company. The difficulty you may have is if the finance company do not believe that you are in such a position, which can then lead to the finance company taking you to court, with the court to pass judgement.

Get an HPI check done first, to see what the deal is with finance.0

Sorry, I don't think you'll get more than that; maybe you'll get that there's outstanding finance and Black Horse has an interest in it, but you know that already.0
