Plasterboard Window Recess

Is it normal for newer houses (built around 2000) to have a plasterboard window recess with nothing behind it?
I have just started drilling the holes for vertical blind fixings and while I half expected a lintel I found the above.
What's the best plasterboard fixing for this? There seems to be quite a few to choose from..... I only need six.

Your walls are probably dry lined. (dot & dab) was and still is the quickest method of attaching plaster board to outer walls. You could drill a slightly bigger/deeper hole, push a Wall plug past the plaster board and use a longer screw. They're are many fixings you could use though.I came into this world with nothing and I'm gonna leave with nothing.0

you only need 6 until the next job ...
Fischer sx range are superb plugs, they just work. Available from ebay / amazon / B&Q / Toolstation and other good retailers.Mr Generous - Landlord for more than 10 years. Generous? - Possibly but sarcastic more likely.0 -
Are you drilling into the sides or the top? Is in a timber framed house or tradition brick/block? There is likely to be a steel lintel over the top. Plasterboard on dabs will be under that to make the reveal. You could drill with a HSS drill and then use a metal screw. Sides these days have a cavity closure rather than a brick return. Again plasterboard on dabs is likely. There is nothing solid in the cavity section so you'll need a plasterboard fixing.0

Standard brick/block although when a couple of windows were replaced recently the fitters did say the builders cut corners to save on cost. This was not one of the windows they replaced but I must say the replacement windows installation was excellent.
I managed to get the blinds up eventually but I am not happy with a couple of the holes and will take the blind down and refit them using proper plasterboard fixings. Luckily the vertical blind is not that heavy and is staying up so far!0
