I purchased some work gloves off eBay last Saturday and they'd collected my payment via Direct Debit (using PayPal) on Tuesday morning-touch wood I've not had any issues in delayed payments with them (yet).
I use Lloyds Bank and it says on their website in Online Banking any contactless transactions under £15 may not show as 'pending' and to bear that in mind.
That's one reason I use Apple Pay with them-that way it does show up as 'pending'.
In terms of Direct Debits NatWest used to show them as collected on a Saturday if it was due to be processed on a Monday; I find Lloyds tend to collect them on either the Monday or Tuesday.It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Many bank staff will know that they issue different kinds of debit cards. Some card issuers may require an account downgrade, many won't.
How do you go about life without trying things due to 'fear' - must be a very boring life. :rotfl:I fear most front line bank staff will either not know of offline/online cards (online internet shopping right ?.....). Even if they do some banks will only offer them on children's accounts or basic(bad credit) accounts

Counter-rant, apologies in advance...
I'm not sure how you arranged every DD for the same day, let alone the same day you are paid (in my mind that's a disaster to begin with, what if you are paid late? Imagine 15-30 failed transactions...) since I've seen companies vary to: specify a date (15), only the 1st, or the xth day (e.g. Tuesday); some don't even let you choose the day. In addition, it's bad to assume any weekend transfers will occur, which is bound to be attempted if the DD is set (for example) on the 15th each month.
Why are you going into unauthorised overdraft from contactless spending (which bear in mind has a limit of £35 per transaction, so these are not large purchases)? Being in authorised overdraft should be a warning sign to begin with, and personally I think your OD limit should be large enough to handle a mistimed transaction or 2 (thus the reason to stagger them) - I know Barclays won't charge authorised use if you sort it before 18:30 and they send an sms alert to warn you, other banks do similar.
Stagger the DDs, and and as others suggested separate your spending money into a different account when you get paid - you should have a vague idea how much this is from a budget. Then it's clear how much you have to spend and there's less worry of when a bill goes out. Alternatively, I used to shift the amount expected for bills to a saving account then shift it back when the bill was debited, but that's a very hands on approach.0 -
Very good of your bank to refund charges that were 100% your fault.
You know there is no need to be like that.
Andrew is frustrated, he is not trying to blame the bank.
Not everyone has a full understanding of how banking transactions work and even more so when a new method of payment is launched such as contactless.
You know if you do speak to your bank and you explain clearly and civilly to them what has happened they often will help. Generally refunding fees if it is a misunderstanding or mistake. Yes is it very good of the bank to refund them, afterall they were not obliged to do so.0
