Not sure where to post. Thinking of buying a mackbook air 13.3 for daughter for Xmas. She works for a London university as admin support in the registry office. I understand she is entitled to a discount. Does anybody know the percentage? The MacBook air selling at John Lewis at £1099, it is the same price at JL and you get 2 yrs guarantee with JL. I am not sure how much apple care costs? Thanks

Higher Education gets three year's maintenance free, and a decent discount.
I suspect you get the HE discount as a non-academic member of staff, because the test was basically "do you have an ac.uk email address and can you access the website from JANET?" and is now "Can you register for Unidays".
Note that the Air is an old machine, and you should look at the alternatives, particularly the Macbook, carefully.0 -
I will ask her I am sure she can register. Also do you know whether this is transferrable i.e if she wants to give it to her brother or sell it. Can the warranty be transferred? Thanks0

Current price that I can see for a Macbook Air is £855 to £989 depending on spec.0

Specs is 13.3 8gb 256 ssd. I got the same price of £989 from apple CS by phone and £119 for apple care. I told him I can buy cheaper online. I also find she can 3yrs warranty for HE but she has to buy online. Thanks0

Apparently, the discount used to vary by institution, but now it is a flat 10%.0

Don't forget to look at Apple UKs refurbished stock, they are indistinguishable from a new one.0

Anyone know if it is posible to get the Black Friday gift cards using Apple Education Store today?
Due to buy my daughter's belated 21st birthday present, was hoping to save something on a Macbook Air today.
Thanks!0 -
Have asked on the phone and been told no the guarantee is only 1 yr I thought you get 3 yrs with higher education. He said she will get 10%. Better paying extra £10 and buy at JL let me know if you have more luck. Refurbished is £929 on Apple website. Apple care is £1190

Their educational discount may not be as good as the prices you can find on ebay. Apple aren't very MSE if you buy them new and I've no grumbles with the refurbs I've bought online for self and daughter.
Not too fussed about buying newest model as I already have old versions of really good software I can't afford to buy upgrades for.
If your daughter's got Office or Adobe suites do check you aren't buying her a fancy paperweight. On the other hand, her employers might have a site license for software that she might have access to. Apart from 1 is second-hand and the other isn't.0
