Hi, I'm have been using the verified by visa system for years but over the last few months I have noticed when going through checkout the verified by visa page comes up briefly then it comes up that I have successfully checked out, without having to put in a password, is this normal? should i change my password?

No.
It seems to be used less frequently now.0 -
Yes, it's basically the retailers choice whether they need you to use the password or not. Some insist, others don't. Many will let you bypass the password if you've used the site before and also the banks have a system that recognises the IP address and the device you are using for the purchase and if you're using that device at your usual IP address location you usually won't need to use the password.0

I don't think its the retailers choice, its the bank dictates0

Yes, it's a bit of both really. The retailer decides whether they use verified by visa at all, but once they're signed up to it the bank decides if it's necessary for that particular transaction. For the purpose of the Op's question though, not being asked for your password very often isn't something to be concerned about as it's quite normal now for the password to be bypassed.0 -
Verified by visa is a joke and easily bypassed by fraudsters.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

It's certainly not a rigorous obstacle to fraud but it is another layer. VbV probably wouldn't halt a professional fraudster but if a card is simply found on the street by an average joe criminal who tries to buy something online he'll probably fail. A bit like a master thief can probably override your burglar alarm but it will still stump the average addict robbing for his fix.0 -
MBNA - you are pre-registered, whatever that means precisely. I've not manually registered the card and I never have to put in a password, but the thing whirs around for second or two.
As other have said, VbV and the equivalents for MasterCard and Amex are a joke from the security point-of-view.0 -
I think I read somewhere that Nationwide have stopped using VbV.0

If only Santander would do the same.
Paying one bill I got a blank page. I found out later that it had paid the bill but thinking it hadn't I tried twice more and paid the bill three times.
All other transactions fail because it just says "Timed Out" and the transaction is cancelled.
It is not fit for purpose. It's not my fault your honour, they made me do it.0
