Waterslide Transfers What A Disaster

A few months ago I put waterslide transfers on my bathroom tiles to hide marks which had been made by various things like a handle for holding on to, a corner shelf etc. They looked absolutely brilliant. However, I had to put some of them where the bath is and after having a bath they started to peel off. Also when I had a shower they peeled off as well. I had extra transfers and kept replacing them but it was a pain in the neck. Last night when I came back from my holidays my dad had been staying at my house watching my dogs and he had had a shower, result tile transfers peeled off. I thought to hell with this and have started to take them all off, what a horrible mess, however I am getting there. I cannot afford to get someone in to retile my bathroom, I am not very good at DIY, so can anyone please tell me what to do next. Do I buy the self adhesive tile transfers, I need at least six to go next to the bath and about three at the shower, or do I paint the tiles with a good tile paint? I want the result to last at least a couple of years when hopefully, I will be in a position to retile my bathroom. At the moment, the bath is covered in small bits of tile transfers, what a mess.

I am going to avoid the tile paint. The reason the waterslide transfers tore was because they were near the bath and shower so I have taken them all off, what a messy job this was. I am going to replace the waterslide transfers with self adhesive ones and they will not be near any water so hopefully this will work. Thanks for the reply.0

Painting tiles certainly isn't a long term fix but if it is only for a couple ofyears until you can replace the tiles it might be a better option. Transfers aren't exactly cheap comparatively.
DON'T go for the proprietary tile paint which is ridiculously expensive. Use a tile PRIMER which can be bought cheaply own brand in Wickes or Wilkinsons and then use the eggshell cover of your choice.
I wouldn't say it was a complicated DIY job just one that needs a bit of patience. Make sure the tiles are very well cleaned and gone over with white spirits then use a gloss roller to put on a coat of the primer and then as many coats of the eggshell as you need to cover the tiles. Taking out the drying time, it isn't too time consuming or tricky! You can then match it into your other decor.0 -
