All these short time figures are for people have done probate themselves. When a solicitor is doing it expect a minimum of six months and probably more like nine or ten. The short timescales are where the executor has decided to take a chance that there will be no late claims. Solicitors will, quite correctly, not do that since they would be professionally negligent if they did so.

I'm only asking how long from submission of probate application to grant of probate, as then I know how much, not how long the whole process takes ;)

As per my previous post, there my still be claims against the estate after probate, so you may not know until well until after probate has been granted. Afraid you will just have to be patient.

In case anyone else ever looks at this thread...

Probate was granted yesterday, so just under a month in total.
  • I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has recently applied for grant of probate with IHT how long it took to get grant of probate. Also, if you sent cheques for IHT with your application, were they cashed shortly after submission or just before grant of probate?

It really is a complete lottery and you cannot gain any useful information from what others have experienced as for the time scale for probate.
