Default now satisfied

Hi all,
Just looked at my credit history for the first time and noticed I had a default for a Three mobile sim only contract which was passed on to Lowell a few years back, I contacted Lowell straight away and have now paid in full today. I was offered a the option of paying a full and final fee of half the money (£35) and they'd update my credit history to partially satisfied or if I paid the full amount it will be changed to default satisfied. Just wondering one of 2 things, firstly if it will improve my history much now it's satisfied with full payment? And secondly the default was issued in October 2014, as the file will be updated in the coming month(s) to satisfied will the whole thing be removed from my credit file 6 years from 2014 or 6 years from December 2016 once the status of the debt has updated?
Completley my fault for not cancelling, I thought it was a pay as you go data bundle but turned out it was a 30 day rolling contract that needed notice handing in. I had moved address so didn't get any of the letters.
Many thanks,
David
