Younique makeup

I've got a couple of friends who have recently become resellers of this brand, and are pushing it pretty hard on facebook.
Has anyone on here (other than people who sell it) used this brand?
Is it actually any good or is it just another pyramid selling scheme with average-at-best products? I've looked up a few reviews on google and they are all suspiciously glowing, which makes me think they are written by re-sellers.

  • A friend had a go at selling Younique, so I've had the opportunity to use the products. I bought the fibrelash mascara and it was OK, but only slightly better than the Maybelline mascara I normally buy and is much more expensive. Can't even keep it just for special occasions because you're supposed to chuck it away 30 days after opening it. And there are some nasty youtube videos out there from people who've had terrible eye infections after using it.

The foundation is good but the shades are definitely geared to the American market and their palest shade made me look Tangoed.

You can do ok with it, but the only way to make significant money is to recruit beneath you. It's the same 'pyramid' style structure as Avon or Betterware - bloody hard work!

Friend still sells it, but she's under no illusions that it's going to earn her anything other than pin-money because she just can't put the hours in with the kiddies.

That's insane! who ever uses a tube of mascara up in 30 days? I'll definitely steer clear of that one then

I've got a friend who sells it....but when she told me the prices!!!:eek:

I think i'll stick with Maybelline and Rimmel !!!

Surely once you've sold a few bits to friends, and even recruited people to your team, you're going to plateaux to the point where you don't know any more people to sell to!!!

As for the continuous "promotion" and "aren't we all wonderful, Ladies" on Facebook....well it's enough to make you want to "unfollow" someone!!! ;)

They are weirdly cagey about the prices. If someone asks they always say "PM me hun". Which seems like a rubbish business strategy to me, if you want someone to buy your products, tell them the costs!

I'd asked about a specific item, it was 6x the cost of the equivalent Rimmel product!! I think I'll pass, sorry.

Got a friend who sells it and pushes it constantly, on her Facebook selling page and her personal one which is really annoying. Having tried some of it, it's drug store to mid-tier makeup at premium prices. I like the fiber lashes thing, although I wasn't aware you're meant to throw it out so quickly, but other fibre mascaras are available and at that price point you can get an Estee Lauder, YSL or Benefit one. You also need to pay postage on anything you buy even though it gets delivered to the sales rep and you need to collect it from them.

As far as I can tell, they make a certain percentage from selling makeup and then if they recruit other people they get a certain percentage of their sales.

I object to the sales model of using people's relationships to effectively guilt them into buying stuff, and the notion that it's somehow empowering women, because it's not.

Honestly, my friend is like a younique selling robot since she got involved. It's like she's been brainwashed.

  • I've never tried it. I know someone who sells it though I don't have them added on facebook. It sounds like that aloe thing that some people push or a diet body wrap thing.
30 days for a mascara is insane. Majority are 6 months! No way would I pay for a new one each month.

Oh yeah, the Aloe stuff....i did unfollow another friend as every post was about the bl**dy stuff. I agree that they seem almost brainwashed.

  • The weirdest part is neither of the women who have started selling Unique are particularly knowledgeable about makeup or skilled at applying it. They post so many photos of themselves wearing glossy eye shadows and heavy foundations and none of it is blended well or flattering to their skintones. They just look quite pitiable and it makes me feel sorry for them, so sorry I could buy one of their...
NO! this is how they get you, isn't it?
