Usually you just enter the details of the account you wish to switch from, usually just sort code, account number and possibly Visa Debit number. You'll usually have all the details you need in 5-7 days.
  • Yeah I understand the switch process I'm just not sure if there's a time limit on how long you have to be with a bank before you can switch to another as I'm wanting the Halifax incentive of £100 if you switch to them.

No there is no minimum time you need to be with a bank before switching.

Perhaps I wasn't clear. You can switch as soon as you have these things which is usually 5-7 days. If you opened an account with Metro Bank where they give you a Debit Card immediately you could start the switching process almost immediately.

The minimum time is only the time it takes to confirm the account is open and receive your details.

It is pretty much as quickly as you want. I opened a student account with HSBC in April and I switched it to Halifax to claim the £100 reward in May
