how to unerase pictures

hi i uploaded some pictures onto my imac using iphotos, it erased the pictures from my camera after it had uploaded them. then i stupidly deleted the iphotos library thinking my pictures were safe in the albums id just put them in, but they have all gone. is there any way i can unerase them from the memory stick in my camera? or have i lost them forever
