I'm sorry you don't like critical answers to your question ....

asking a question on the forum you should expect replies that you don't like, doesn't mean they are "pointless" "gumpf" "rude" mean"

or that you were "victimised" , I could read it as "caught out"

All I have to say is for you to reply with yet ANOTHER negative post, you must be a very angry individual.

When did I once ask for people to criticise me and situation?

    I asked for helpful advice!

Don't you think there is enough negativity in the world without you piping up and trying to make me feel anymore crap about the fact I just had to pay out £82 and made to feel like a criminal which was totally unnecessary

I'm not the type of people they want to catch out, it's the folk that have no intention of paying and don't.

Than you for really sticking the knife in and marking me as some kind of criminal by using the words "caught out".

I refuse to waste any more of my time playing your keyboard warrior game.

Lucky for me I will be getting my money back, which was all I wanted to achieve so now I can happily continue on with my day.

Feel free to reply and carry on being angry, but I won't be reading it.

You obviously are the ones they want to catch , the ones without a "valid ticket to travel before your journey"

I'm quite a calm person actually if you look at my posting style , you seem to come over as very "passive aggressive"

You make Margate station sound like a hell hole , I've been there many times and it's quite a nice end of line terminal station

Thank you to those who replied answering my question.

To those who couldn't help themselves but make a comment on why I didn't buy the ticket online or by the ticket machine, thanks for reminding me why I don't use forums like this for help.

"Rules" haven't applied down here in Margate for many years, therefore many people buy their ticket on the train as this is what they've always done and the service is available.

I didn't ask for someone to read me the riot act, I asked for advice on getting money back for a fine I received as a genuine ticket payer who as just following the same old line of paying for a ticket in the same way she has for the last 2 years.

I have never had this happened before and quite frankly felt like I was an easy target. I didn't have to be given that fine, she chose to because maybe she'd had a !!!! day and needed to take it out on someone.

I didn't once say I was in the right, I know the rules but until NOW these haven't applied to our small towns.

Southeastern workers happily supply tickets on trains and not once have I been told this is the wrong method.

Those of you who couldn't help yourself but repeat what was already obvious, I hope your comments make you feel better or have improved your day in some way.

They certaintly weren't helpful from my point of view and quite frankly were a waste of your time writing it and my time reading it.

When will you typical negative over opinionated people with too much to say stop.

Quite frankly it's exhausting reading such pointless gumpf!

I hope you have a great day afternoon!

Having just read that, I thought 'quite frankly it's exhausting reading such pointless gumpf!'

    Here's some "helpful advice" -

Read the National Rail Conditions of Travel - http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/times_fares/46427.aspx

Buy a ticket before you travel.

Admin, please make this top money saving expert tip on how to get free train rides on Southeastern a sticky.
  • I am really confused. So the times there is no member of staff on the train to sell you a ticket, you just ride for free? If that IS the case, and bearing in mind I am a member of railway union who is tired of seeing railway staff being laid off when the country has a disgraceful fare evasion problem, this is one of the most disappointing things I have read in a long time. Remember, with private companies like South Eastern, they rely on making profit or it's ultimately the front line staff who pay the price for it because if money is not made, the company will find a way to save money. So my suggestion to you is to very respectfully request you do the right thing in future. Thanks.

You asked for 'helpful' advice, and that is exactly what you were given: the advice being that you need a valid ticket before you travel, and therefore you have no legitimate defence against the fine.
You also said that you always get 'the best price' by buying the ticket on the train: this is nonsensical, as walk-up fares are always the most expensive: you can usually make a considerable saving by buying an advance purchase ticket, whether online or at any ticket office up to midnight the day before.

Most likely a member of the "pay if challenged" Kent group...

Buy your ticket before hand, unless there is a genuine reason why you can't use the TVM and the ticket office is closed.

I can prebook single journeys on the southeastern web site for as little as £6 as opposed to the standard £13 saver singles . These are only available online and not at the ticket office , all you need to do is travel on a specific train

It's also possible to get £9 tickets on the high speed train as opposed to £19 on the day if you prefer

It's all going ticket less using key fobs from next year so you can just pay online , it's loaded on your key and you just walk through the gates

No need to buy on the train
