Surely I can't be the only one that thinks you should go?
It is your legal and moral duty to do jury service. It is an important part of keeping society running.
Have some self-respect for yourself, and some respect for your country, and do the service. Unless there is an extremely good reason why you can't do it.
If you are an employee, your employer is required to give you time off to do jury service.0 -

It WAS until they abolished the oldest law in history.
Double jeopardy.
Now if they do not like what the "important" jury decides, they will just put them on trial again until they get the right result they wanted.I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -
When you get there you'll be wishing they pick you for a jury. If you're not picked you'll probably still have to sit all day, bored out of your mind.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

I have more than one disability and was selected, over 20 years ago. I wrote to the Court to explain this. However, had I been able to sit on those benches for long periods, climb and descend many steps and manoever around the coutroom, I would have been happy to serve, it would have been my duty as a citizen, something that is missing from public life today it seems.
And yes I was working at the time, as a disabled employee with a disabled-friendly employer and workplace. The court sent an Officer to take me and show me the environment, then agreed that it was impossible for me to serve. I would have valued the experience, as an insight into the Justice System.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

It can be classed as contempt of court so not only up to £1000 fine but poss jail time as well.
Simply not true. You could potentially get a £1000 fine but that's as far as it'll go.steampowered wrote: »Surely I can't be the only one that thinks you should go?

If it was the choice of going to jury service or being seriously out of pocket I'd ditch it too. If someone told you you'd lose thousands by attending would you still go?
OP will your employer not pay your salary? If not you need to weigh up the risks. Worst case scenario is you'll be fined £1000. If you'll lose more than that then it's a no brainer.0 -

I wouldn't want to do it either. I've got off of it twice, would finally try to again.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
I wish I knew, being just on basic state pension anything over £20 a day is a fortune to my way of thinking {and I do not get any other help}
And you cut your cloth according to your measure.
I could not pay my bills on £20 a day or the small sum jury service reimburses.
I need my salary.0
