If you paid for any part of the installation on credit (either a credit card or finance tied to the installation) then you still have the same warranty/guarantee rights. The only difference is that these rights are now against the credit provider and not the installers.

This because of section 75 of the consumer credit act.

Due to the crash of Solarking/ Solarcrown the 10 year warranty and guarantee certificate is now a worthless piece of paper , had our fitted 2015 , I have received a letter from ESE stating that I have not had a free health check and service, on contacting ESE I am told its £19.99 per month to renew the warranty and service, just wondered if any one else had had such a letter, glad to hear any comments on this matter

I do not think miuch of it at all. The company I had install mine 7 years ago are very much still in business (although they only do commercial installations now), but I kept getting people ringing trying to provide !!!8216;free!!!8217; health checks, and trying to scare me that my inverter was about to fail so it definitely needed checking. Inverters are not expensive to replace, so a maintenance contract is not worthwhile.

So far I have had only one issue where generation stopped (3 years go) and a reset of the inverter sorted that out, so I would recommend doing that before calling any one in, especially under a free check where the person coming to your house is more likely to be a salesman rather than electrician.

I would check who your warranty is with. Ours was with IWA an insurer independent of the installer so inverter was replaced at no cost to us.
Except for the loss of generated electricity for several months over last summer. :(
  • We bought solar from Solarking back in 2015. We recently had a problem with our generation meter and were told to contact Solarcrown as they had taken on the warranties for installs post 2013. The customer service was great and we had an engineer out within a week to sort the problem. We also received from another company saying that our system needed a health check and that the warranty was invalid. Our minds have been put completely at rest by Solarcrown and the work that was carried out. The gentleman that we dealt with was Nigel, he was great and really helped us out.

You did well having your repair done by Solar Crown.
The company that called about the health check, did they give any information or did you have them out ?
We also had an unsolicited call saying our system required a health check.
When I told them the generation meter had recently been replaced, we heard no more.
Does the system really need checking I wonder ?

There is nothing to check, you do not need a maintenance contract at £240 a year! If the inverter or gen meter fail, they can be replaced by any electrician. The system has no moving parts and the panels are maintenance free.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Thanks for that. Pretty much what I thought, but nice to have it confirmed.
