My son is an additional driver on my car with the insurance in my name. he was recently to blame for an accident in my car and we claimed on my policy. my question is: when he comes to taking out his own insurance on his own car in eg 1-2 years time does he have to volunteer this current claim as belongiong to him, or does it not count against him because the insurance is in my name ? thanks

Yes he will have to declare the accident, as he was the one who had it.
If you removed him you wouldn't need to disclose it.0 -
But the claim was against the OPs policy, why does he not need to declare it?
I thought they both need to declare it?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

If the named driver's son is removed from the OP's policy then the OP would still have to disclose the claim when applying for quotes(assuming it happened within the time period of history being asked)0 -
            No.

It depends on the question asked. If asked "have you or anyone named on the policy had any accidents claims or losses", and the son isn't on the policy anymore, the OP can truthfully answer no to claims.0 -

No. More dangerous "advice" from you.
The named driver's claim on the OPs policy must be disclosed by the policyholder if the named driver is no longer on the policy.0 -

The OP has to truthfully answer 'yes'.0 -
But the OP hasn't claimed. Her son had the accident, her son caused the claim, albeit on her policy.0

So there was a claim on their policy.Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0

Right... so I revert to my previous comment - it depends on the question asked.
If the OP is asked if she has made a claim, she hasn't. The claim was made by the son.0 -

You are so dangerously wrong yet again!paddyandstumpy wrote: »Right... so I revert to my previous comment - it depends on the question asked.

You should mark your posts as being "in your opinion" so that anyone searching for advice on named driver claims doesn't end up with a voided/cancelled policy by following your bad advice.
You already have had to be corrected in other threads over your dangerous/poor advice on motor insurance and did say you would "stick to commenting on what you know"paddyandstumpy wrote: »You're right Quentin, that was poor advice. Apologies to the OP here. I don't work in Motor insurance so have no ideas of the RTA laws, perhaps I should have kept my mouth shut!
I do work in insurance, with a decade in Underwriting, DipCii and alot of experience in my market.
I'll stick to commenting on what I know - and I've deleted my poor post!0
