Ok so I'll admit to being a bit of a tv stick newbie - in other words I don't understand it. My son has a non-smart TV in his room but as we cant get a TV aerial there it is redundant. He has a wifi router in his room due to it being a wifi blackspot in the house so can either go wireless or wired to that.
I need a TV stick that is easy to use and does all of the following:
Youtube/ Netflix/ iplayer/ itvplayer/ amazon prime.
Ideally I also want it easy for him to use in terms of searching etc.
I think its a choice between the firestick and roku... I know the roku can be controlled from a phone - he has a Samsung galaxy s5 and will be getting a fire 7 tablet for xmas or birthday depending on what I pick (his birthday is December). Can these both operate the roku and is it user friendly?
The amazon firestick seems to be recommended as "the better stick" and I can see the possibilities of adding kodi to it if I ever feel brave enough, however I cannot tell if it has youtube on it from the stuff I have looked at (although I admit to getting a bit confused so may have missed it) and I think to control it its extra for the controller.
I don't want to spend a lot on this so don't fancy roku boxes etc. Can anyone help???

Amazon firestick will meet all your needs. Just download the YouTube app.
I've loaded Kodi on mine, took 7 mins, a doddle.0 -
Thanks - how do you control the search features? Can you link it to a phone/ his new tab like roku?0

No idea, I've never used youtube on mine, if I do use it I cast from ipad to my chrome-stick.0

The firestick comes with a remote control.
You would use this to control an on-screen keyboard to perform searches on youtube etc ..
You also have the option of adding a bluetooth mouse/keyboard such as this :-

I would say get the firestick imho - And if you put kodi on it for him too he will be delighted (and most likely never come out of his room)

I believe Amazon Fire Sttick will be selling for £25 from tomorrow at Argos - http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/argos-deals-live-tomorrow-23-11-amazon-firestick-25-amazon-8gb-fire-tab-29-99-16gb-25531050

Thanks... I'd been hanging on for a good offer. Will go for the firestick.0

The fact that Argos are about to discount the Fire Stick is a pretty good indication that Amazon themselves will be dropping the price in their sales too.0

Be aware - there is a new Amazon Fire TV Stick (2016) on the way with a Quad core processor, ac wifi and Alexa Voice Remote included.
It's already on sale in the US (https://www.amazon.com/All-New-Stick-Remote-Streaming-Player/dp/B00ZV9RDKK) so expect it to appear here in time for Christmas or when stocks of the old one (dual core, no Alexa) start to run out.0
