If you go into settings there should be an icon for 'switch maps'Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0

If the map is no longer on the unit then connect the TT to your computer and run TomTom Home. Click big blue arrow, select "Manage My ???" and you can remove and add to your unit.0

Thanks to molerat and moto2
unfortunately neither of those things worked. I don't understand why it will not let me upload the western europe map to the unit, but it says there is no such map.0 -
What did you do with the EU map ?
Have you made a Windows Explorer backup of the unit ?
Have you purchased a EU map update at any time ?0 -
thanks for the help, molerat
I saved it onto the computer and external hard drive as a folder but don't remember if I did a backup first. I have not purchased an EU map update.0 -
OK, a bit of a long process but here goes.
Firstly, check where TT Home stores the files it uses, (if you are not sure click on "Tools" "Home Preferences" "Folders") and look in "from device" and "downloads" to see if the EU map is there. If not continue.......
**VERY IMPORTANT** Create a windows explorer backup. Connect TT to computer. Go to my computer, right click on the TT and copy it somewhere safe. This will be a complete back up copy of your device which you can put back on to a wiped device if necessary.
Locate where you backed up the EU map.
Open TT home. Go to "Manage My Device" "Items on Device", click on USA map and "Copy Items to Computer". Again click on map and "Remove Items from Device".
Go to "my computer", open up the TT then copy your EU map folder (should be named something like western europe) into the root directory. Eject the TT and when it restarts see if the EU map is there. If not try pressing the reset on the bottom of the unit with a paper clip. The unit should know that it is registered to use the EU map and it should work.
When you have done this make another complete windows explorer back up copy of the device then go to home and copy the EU map to the computer. You have then got copies for all eventualities - I have rescued a bricked unit with the explorer backup before.0
