    You can get temperature resistant plasterboard that can go behind ovens, fires and boilers and provided this was used, it would be okay as far as building regulations and safety are concerned.
    The proximity of the TV is a different matter and with the burner in use, I would be surprised if the set lasted more than a few days.

    Had my TV above the log burner for about 8 years now.

    Had my TV above my open fire for 2 years. With the fire roaring there is barley any discernible heat rising up to the tv. The mantle piece and the general flow of are seem to do a good job of deflecting all of the heat away from the fire.

    The height doesn't bother us either.
