Memory question

Hi all, just a quickie....recently i`ve noticed that if i open another programme as well as my browser the machine becomes really slow and the mouse cursor sort of "jerky" I`m using aol and if for instance i open azureus the cpu usage goes up to 95% or 100% making the pc deathly slow....i`ve got 1gb memory and a pentium 4 3.06gb processor......i`ve done a spyware check and a virus check.....any ideas?

  • Azureus is Java based is it not? Can be a hog - And are you downloading any torrents in there? Or is it ANY app?
    Which browser are you using?

  • Not sure it's Azureus causing the problem.
I use it as well, and I will say that it slows my PC slightly, but not significantly. I have a 2.4 Ghz Intel Celeron Northbridge OC'd to 2.7 Ghz, and less than 1Gb RAM, but it has yet to cause a problem.

Azureus normally uses around 10-20% of processor when it stabilises on my machine. Any more than that, and I'd wonder what it's doing.
  • Its not nessaserally(sic) thatsometimes it goes like that even if i`m waiting for a web page to load, avg is another one.I`m using aol`s browser.

Bin the AOL software and just use IE or Firefox. If you search this forum there's info on how to do it.

If you've done a spyware scan and virus scan the other things to try are running ccleaner to get rid of temporary files and tidy up the registry and maybe try a defrag.

You could also try uTorrent instead of Azureus as it has a much smaller footprint.

  • Thanks for your help
