No claims bonus removed

Hi all!!
I am a taxi driver and I had four years no claims bonus and I paid my insurance on a week by week basis.
I was involved in an incident last week where I was waiting behind a car to turn into a road. We were on a hill and the car in front rolled back and touched my front bumper ever so slightly. We pulled over. I was first out of the car and checked for damage to my vehicle. I discovered there was none. When the guy got out of his car I was just about to say don't worry about it when he came out with 'I got a bit of a jolt to the neck' and insinuated I drove into him. My wife was in the car and there was another independent witness that saw the incident.
When I paid my insurance today to my broker, it had shot up by £40 (nearly twice what I already pay) and my four years no claims had gone.
I called the insurance company and they said no claim had been made but it has been put down as a fault on my part as there is a possibility this guy is going to make a claim. I was told it would stay this way for 6months, and if no claim was made I would get my 4years NCD back and my insurance would go back to the normal price and I would be reimbursed the extra I have paid for the last six months.
Is this a normal procedure, because it doesn't seem right to me?!
I'd understand if a claim was made so they increased it while it was being sorted but the fact no claim has been made doesn't sit right with me.
Any advice is appreciated..

Once notified of an incident which may result in a claim then NCD is usually temporarily reduced.
But not normally by 4 years. Check your policy wording and see what it says regarding the affect of a claim on existing NCD.
Has this coincided with your annual renewal? If not check the policy wording too regarding premium increases like this mid term0 -
As driving is your livelihood , it would be a good idea to have front and rear facing dash cams. One would certainly have proved your case against this shyster, out to get easy money, while making things harder for those genuinely injured, because there is coming a time when they won't be believed.0
