most of the costs on that bill are labour charges. I don't think there are any idlers-tensioners on an alternator belt generally the tension is taken up by moving the altenator.
OP stop fretting about what you have been charged, get your bulb changed and find a small independent garage to do the work next year.0 -

I'm only going on my experience, mind you it was a few years back, maybe things have changedI hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0 -
Additional/optional front Fog lamps, Driving lamps or Spot lamps are not testable.
From the 2016 MOT Manual:
Additional or optional lamps are not included in
the inspection.
I don't think they ever have been.0 -

The vast majority of modern engines have the alternator, PS pump, AC compressor, etc solidly mounted, and tensioning is done by an automatic sprung tensioner. Has been the 'way it's done' for years now.0 -

If you were failed for a front fog not working, then you should have escalated it to DVSA, because testers's cannot make fails up. If it isn't in the Reasons for Rejection column explicitly, it cannot fail.
For the last decade or so, since computerisation, testers have to pick the fail item from the list.0 -
My car has 2 main beams per headlight, one outer, incorporated into a H4 dual filament bulb and the other on an inner H1 bulb. The inner ones are driving lamps built into the head lamp and are non testable.
You can have a nearside rear fog lamp showing white light to the rear and the tester can't fail it.0 -
