Ways for a teenager to make money

I am 15 years old and wish to start making money. This is so that I can afford to get a bike once I am 16, just under a year away. I am saving up all of my money, however will need to earn more money. Does anyone have any ideas, so far I have thought of:
  • Programme seller
  • Paper round
  • Modelling
However I do not know enough about how to get any of these jobs and am finding the researching difficult. If anyone knows any more or has any other ideas it would be much appreciated. This would include links to useful websites. If it helps I live in west Drayton, which is in Middlesex, east London

Many Thanks,
Jonathon

  • My nephew earns £20 on a Saturday doing jobs for his gran - cleans the car, pressure washes the drive etc - have you got any generous relatives?

It's hard getting a job when you're 15/16 - I'd network every single person you and your family know, and ask if they need or know of anyone who needs regular Saturday help!

    Hi Jonathon,
Well done wanting to work for something, instead of expecting things to be given to you-you should be very proud of yourself.

I have a 14 yo daughter, who is also desperate to find a little bit of work to bring in some pennies, and it is hard at this age.

Something my daughter found, was a friend of mine, who needed a cat-sitter for a week over the October holidays. So once a day,she went to my friend's house, fed cat, changed water, then sat and cuddled cat for an hour.At the end of the week she was given nearly £40 ,as well as a couple of holiday souvenirs. And an invitation to do the same while the family go overseas for a month at Christmas :j.She was thrilled.

What about baby-sitting/house-sitting/dog-walking (around here people pay about £10/day for dog-walking services). If you can stick to people you know, even easier.

I don't know if there are still paper-rounds around your area.My daughter was asking the local shop for about 12 mponths for a paper round, they kept saying they will get back to her,but never did.Now I see the manager of the store doing the paper-round himself,in the middle of the day!So they may be becoming obsolete now.

Some people loathe wrapping Christmas presents-anyone to offer you a few pounds to do this?

    Shopping for elderly neighbours?

    Good luck with it,Jonathon.

Hi. Have you a cafe nearby? You could ask if they want a washer upper at busy times. Any markets near you? Ask if they want a Saturday boy on the veg stall, or any stall. Go round your neighbours and ask if they want their cars washed. Good luck.

    I love skip diving.
    :D
  • Try your local CIU/working mens clubs and ask if they need any bottle boys.

    Hi Jonathon

Like other posters have said, well done - you have an amazing head on you!

I'm wondering if another MSE user could confirm the below :)

    Good luck!

Would Swagbucks be suitable for the op maybe, I know you have to be a minimum age of 13, he could save up for PayPal?

InstaGC has a minimum age of 13 too, although the terms state this is with "parental consent".

I had a washer up job at 15, easier then, less checking and no need for an NI card, we were paid cash as a casual worker. I saved enough to buy a moped just a week before my 16th birthday, on the road on the big day! I also mowed the vicars lawn for money as required, cleaned cars, general household jobs like cutting hedge - whatever I could do. I got a job on a fruit farm by going there on a bike and asking the farmer politely, everyone else who got the job had a connection through the farmers wife and the womens institute, the farmer liked my get up and go approach (luckily it was just before Norman Tebbit's comment re bikes and work for you oldies like me!!)
    Good luck!!
cafe and market are good ideas, dress fairly smart and pop along and ask politely, be confident and if they say they have nothing ask if you can be put on a waiting list - offer to do a work trial, keen and willing are the watch words!!

You could try looking into leaflet distribution - similar to a paper round but local companies always want flyers putting through doors. Another avenue would be a Saturday job at a hairdressers/barbers - I did this myself when I was 14/15 and it involved sweeping the floor, cleaning at the end of the day, making lots of tea and coffee and the occasional drenching of clients at the sink (I wasn't asked to shampoo much after that...)

    Make £2020 in 2020 - £263.78/£2020

    2020 totals
    Swagbucks - £100 | Prolific Academic - £44.54 | Qmee - £10 | PopulusLive - £50

A great way is with Amazon's price scanner app and DVD's in charity shops.

You can scan the DVD's in the shop using the app and it tells you the current "used" price. If there is much margin between the charity shops asking price and Amazon, purchase it and add it to you Amazon online store.

This is a great idea and something that my 14 year old sister now enjoy's every weekend.

Let me know how you get on :)
