Hi all,
Our car insurance was up for renewal so we did search on confused and got the cheapest quote through them. We're inexperienced and rather naive in the insurance world as we didn't even realise they were brokers. We went ahead and booked online only to get a call next day to say they can't provide us with the policy but they will be charging us £40 admin fee. Their reason for refusing was because my husband is the director of his own company. Although the insurance was for his "social" use car which isn't related to his business.
Only now I've done a search on their name and came across all the similar reviews of them. http://www.reviewcentre.com/Car-Insurance/Flux-Direct-www-fluxdirect-co-uk-reviews_1636240-p4#Reviews
This seems to be their tactic. We're a bit annoyed that they are on confused.com as we've been using that search site for years and they always gave us reputable companies.
We would like advice on whether there is anything, apart from leaving negative reviews, we can do to report these people who clearly have ill intentions.
We paid with American Express so would we be able to get refund through Amex? Can we report them to any financial ombudsman?
any advice would be appreciated.

You can report this to the FOS, but you first need to use the insurers complaints procedure. Then if you are unhappy with their reply or they ignore you for 8 weeks you can escalate this to the FOS for their adjudication at no cost to you.
Until this is resolved, you do have a policy cancellation on your record which you should notify your current insurer about.
If you are able to get the cancellation rescinded, then get confirmation in writing that this has been removed from your record and need not be disclosed to other insurers.0 -
What occupation did your husband declare and how did he declare he was employed eg Director, Self Employed or Employee?0

My husband is director of his company but also an employee of his company. He declared that on form. Their reason for cancelling wasn't because he misinformed but rather they just said they don't insure company directors!! (rather daft!)
To update: American Express will be refunding us thankfully. For now I have left negative reviews on the review sites and hope others do not fall prey to them. We've now renewed insurance with 1st Choice and hope there are no more hiccups as renewal date is tomorrow,0 -
Perhaps he did one quote with himself as company director and then another as employee, and took out the cheaper one? And they've cancelled it due to quote manipulation?0

When you next do dummy quotes, don't use your real name and use a different email address and house address
Director of a company and employee of a company your trying to bend the rules. He is a director first as he owns the company and therefore works for the company. He is not an employee."It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

Thanks for the advice. We definitely need to get to grips with his work status.
Just To explain... he is a consultant investment analyst (in other words agency temp) working for a bank but he needs to have his own company to receive his salary. He is relatively new to the temporary line of work so this is all new for us.
On the quote we quoted his job was consultant Analyst (that's his job title) but in further information we informed them he was also director of his company.0
