An option I am seriously considering.0

Don't have one, and staff council is next to useless.
Perhaps ask colleagues if they feel the same and ask for union representation if management are ignoring you on your own?
Are you saying 20p per hour (the effective difference between same KPI quality day and night work) is 2% or 4% of your wage?Originally Posted by shortcrust

If you do switch to days, you will be aware of other issues.
For example, if you drive to work, there will be more traffic, parking maybe an issue etc.
If you are responsible for children, you may not be able to get affordable childcare.
In my view, the pay rate isn't everything.0 -
More a switch of company than shift0

Perhapd the day shoft are less good at meeting the KPIs forthe bonus andthey feel they need to kep them on their toes? Increasing their basic pay miht work less well forthe employer, ifthey feel that they have some members of staff who would not then put in the same effort to earn the bonus.
As others have said, it is not unfair, or illegal discrimination, and if you feel that the extra 20pph isn't worth it to you personally, you can always apply to work days instead. All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0 -

Well, it might well be unfair. The thing is it doesn't matter if it's unfair. Pay is not supposed to be fair.0 -
It's a shame, but perfectly legal. In fact the day shift might find it harder to reach their targets they have to put up with 'daily life' on shift - company meetings, phone calls, management interference, or just more people around getting in each others way, whereas overnight you can stick the radio on and get the job done. Your bonus may be lower as you've less to overcome!0
