Can I complain to British Gas as a non customer?
Is it possible as a non customer of British Gas to complain to them and get them to remove my phone number from whatever account they have it associated to?
From other calls I have, I assume it's whoever had my phone number berfore me at a different property that set it up. I also got debt calls, and if I had been paying attention would know their name and their wifes name and the address they live(d?) at. However I did not pay too much attention as I was not expecting such calls.
The other calls stopped but BG keep sending automated requests for readings and so on. It is annoying.
Anyone had any luck with removing of such data when you are a differnet address and nbot their customer?

If your name is on an account, then I expect BG think you are, or at least were, a customer of theirs.
But in answer to your question, yes you can complain to an energy supplier even if you are not their customer.0 -
It will not be my name or address, which is where I believe I will have issues complaining to BG.
My phone number allocated when I moved in came with calls for the old user of it (numbers are short in some areas and are quickly re-used, especially as certain ranges are kept back for various uses).
Though to be fair, BG have never mentioned a name in these automated calls. I am just assuming it's the same guy that others have called for, which is another place in the same dialing code area, but over 6 miles away at a guess.
How do I get BG to expunge a phone number from their system when it is not associated to my name or address, but an address I do not know. (This house has never been with BG).
Likewise I cannot register with TPS becuase it says already registered.0 -

If the number is registered with the TPS, then you should not be receiving unsolicited calls. If you do, report them.
You may get a call from BG if they are looking for somone else that had your number, or otherwise gave it to BG, or even BG recorded it incorrectly for somone else. However, the first time they ring, you can explain they have the wrong number and they should amend their records accordingly. To be doubly sure, you can request that as you are not a customer of BG, that BG should not call you again on that number.
If they do, you can report that too!
(When you report a TPS violation, one of the questions asked is have you told the caller directly previously not to contact you by telephoen on that number)
If it's an automated call, then presumably they give you a contact number for them. If not, yes you can write to them to register your complaint.0 -
you can complain as a Flying Dutchman if you wish, but whether or not they take any notice of you is another matter entirely0

Good stuff op. What a time to be alive!0

Ring up BG and ask them to remove your number from their databases. If they fail to do so and you continue to get calls, contact the ICO. On this particular matter they are quite effective. They will write to BG reminding them of their obligations; that usually works. I've complained to the ICO about TV Licensing for their use of my email, and about my local paper for marketing calls. In both cases I got a result.0
