Have a read of this to explain the 'new' technology.

Have a close look at viewing angle before you part with your plasma, as you'll find the viewing angle for LCD etc is somewhat narrower than the very wide available angle of a plasma.
In terms of energy useage, I'd be very surprised if you would notice any reduction in your electricity bill swopping from plasma to LCD/OLED - the change would be small and masked by other minor lifestyle changes!!
We added a 50" plasma to our collection a few years ago, looked at quite a few TV's in JL Home (they always have loads on display) and found you need to be almost straight in front of a LCD screen to see good picture quality - not good in our lounge!0 -

Smart tv addon box £20.
If it was a decent plasma setup properly you might struggle to get a better picture with LCD(led are lcd as well).0 -

I'm holding on to my (was) top of the range Panasonic plasma for grim life, even though it too is nearly 6 years old I've yet to see a more complete viewing experience from any current LED(LCD) TVs.
What make/model have you got?0 -
I've got a pioneer HD plasma - it's about 8/9 years old I think.
It's got a perfect picture & still looks very smart.
I'm hanging onto it.0 -

Smart TVs don't give a better screen. As said, get a box to make it 'smart'.0
