1 bad debt in 15 years credit gone from v good to poor help!!

I allowed my daughter to use my name to get a mobile phone contract. As I mainly live abroad I did not receive communication until too late. In July 2015 I opened a letter from a debt company and had to pay 583. This has taken my score from v goo to poor. Now I need a small loan and cannot get one. This is my only debt ever. any advice please.

    Hi,

What advice are you after exactly ?

    Ignore the score.

I assume your daughter defaulted on the mobile contract, and as a result you now have a default on your credit file.

The default will be there for 6 years regardless, all I can tell you is the further back in time the default is, the less impact it will have on credit applications.

But whilst it's there it's likely you will be declined for further credit.

  • In addition to the above, if you have no credit history apart from this, you need to think about building a good history, perhaps by applying for a sub prime card, using it and paying it in full each month.

This isn't going to be a fast solution, but it will lay some groundwork for the future.
  • Write to the CEO and explain that it is NOT your debt and you did not know that your name had been used.

Legally they have to remove it. I have done this twice as my son used my name too.
  • That's getting firmly into fraud territory. That won't end well for the OP or the daughter.
