Engineered Wood vs Laminate

hello, this might be a dumb question, so sorry if it is, but i too was thinking of real wood flooring, but wasn't sure if i need to take up existing floorboards (old knackered, not very attractive) or can I lay new flooring over the top. Right now it's carpeted, so i guess the dept of the carpet plus underlay might be about half an inch thick. Would be a whole load easier to lay over existing floor....0

I laid engineered Kahrs flooring over existing floorboards. I got a reducer piece to change the level between the new height and the existing hall. It worked really well. I also needed a solid edge moulding to finish off the stone hearth and patio doors. This comes with a plastic rail that screws to the floor and just clips into place. Like these:

I'll try and get a pic of mine, too.Debbie0 -
I was in a flat last weekend that I thought had laminate flooring, but I loved the way there was no noise.... so I said how great the flooring was.
And he said: it's lino
Really - I couldn't tell
OK, it was the morning after, I had a bit of a hangover and the blinds were still drawn. But I'd been marvelling at how great it felt under foot all the time I was there.
Worth a look at lino.0 -
Oh cool - that will work really well, and that stair edging bit is perfect - was wondering what to do about that!
Thank you.0
