Northampton Court Papers through

Got Northampton court papers through, solicitor Gladstones - the incident was from July 2012, and as that's pre-POFA, I believe my main defence should be based around the registered keeper not being held liable. There were multiple people insured to drive the car at that time, and I genuinely do not know who was driving at the time (it was 4 years go).
Have a few questions,
1. Even though that will form the basis of my defence, should I just concentrate on that, or pull in everything I can?
2. If the answer to 1 is to try all types of defence, I was re-sent the images of the car, with the ticket on, and signage back in January (after I contacted Gladstones to tell them I have no idea what parking incident they were talking about), but when I didn't hear anything back in another 6 months, I thought it had gone away and binned them. Do I have the right to request them again? I can't defend myself on signage etc. if I don't know what the sign said!
3. The letter before claim from them was a bit sparse, and after getting some advice on here, I asked them to send me a proper one with a ll the information I requested (such as how they justified the extreme amount of fine, why they didn't offer any ADR etc.). I only sent it to Gladstones via email, not a proper letter. The next I heard was the court papers. Just wondering if that email can be included in my defence?
Thanks
Jack
