Hi folks,
I have an old Epson sx 200 printer and always find that when I use a compatible cartridge that colour won't print at all immediately or won't show up on a nozzle test, but if I leave it overnight usually it will work then, have you had a similar experience with compatibles and if so are the more up to date printers the same?
Just after buying an Epson xp 235 as a backup printer, and notice that the compatibles are far more expensive on ebay, is this because its one of the latest models from Epson and sellers have not brought the price down yet, or are these cartridges different?
Thanks for any info.

never had a problem with any compatible cartridges in any Epson printer. They all pee & moan about it but most can be persuaded to talk to the cartridges.
The XP-235 uses newer cartridges and this is the usual story with a new Epson printer, its compatible ink is more expensive (but shouldn't be as expensive as the genuine ink) but it will eventually come down.0 -
Just looking myself for XP235 cartridges. It seems they are cheaper for older models but the newer one (made 2016?) has a different chip inside or something. Still trying to find a good bargain to buy myself!Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day. -- Sally Koch0

The problem with your SX200 is that it's an old printer and getting a little tired, possibly the priming system is not as effiecient as it used to be, the priming/cleaning is done by the printhead sitting on rubber pads and a pump drawing ink through the printhead, over time the pump can get weak and the ink lines that carry the surplus ink can clog with old congealed ink. Also in a printer that age the printhead it's self may not be working at it's best.
As for your new XP235, the reason the compatibles are a lot more expensive is partly because they are fairly new printers, however, on those printers there was a firmware update during production which stopped machines made after a certain date using compatible cartridges, the manufacturers of the compatible chips had to come up with a new version chip, this is quite common on current model printers, not just Epson, for example with some Brother cartridges we are on version 3 chips for machines that have only been on the market a year.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0
