  • MMR is made using eggs - standard eggs that come from a chicken. That is why there is a theoretical risk of a reaction if you are allergic to eggs. Official information can be found in "The Green Book" published to the public on the Department of Health website.

Please, all MSE users that are debating whether or not to get kids or yourselves vaccinated - talk to your GP. Remeber measles and rubella can cause severe disability and can even be fatal.
Life in this world is, as it were, a sojourn in a cave. What can we know of reality? For all we can see of the true nature of existence is, shall we say, no more than bewildering and amusing shadows cast upon the inner wall of the cave by the unseen blinding light of absolute truth, from which we may or may not deduce some glimmer of veracity, and we as troglodyte seekers of wisdom can only lift our voices to the unseen and say humbly "Go on, do deformed rabbit again.....it's my favourite". © Terry Pratchett in "Small Gods"

did Anita Roddick not die from hepatitis C because no one thought of looking at the blood from the blood transfusion?

No, Anita Roddick died from a brain haemorrhage, which followed a stroke. You don't need hepatitis to have a stroke.

if you dont ask the questions how can you progress in life with new things too?

Asking questions is good, but you do seem to worry about everything... I think it's a bit unhealthy to go looking for problems in our everyday lives, and dwelling on every tiny little scare story that some half-baked paper with no statistical significance cooked up.

By the way... AIDS from the MMR? For real? Don't you think someone would have noticed by now?

  • Just to let you know...MMR is made from egg shells. I only know this as my son had his MMR 2 weeks ago, the Dr asked did he have an egg allergy (which he does), as it contains egg shells. He was fine btw.

as has already been said Anita Roddick died of a brain haemorrhage not Hep C - she contracted Hep C in 1972 when she had a blood transfusion after giving birth, at that time blood wasn't screened for diseases such as Hep C as there wasn't the understanding or the technology, we've come a long way since then.

MMR is NOT made from eggs shells. It is made from viruses which are bred in the cells from chicken's eggs. Please read post number 4 by Floyd as it's a much better explanation than I could be bothered to write.

Your GP has told you that MMR is made of chicken bits and human embryos and might be responsible for the transmission of AIDS and bird flu?

  • Recommendations for using MMR vaccine in children allergic to eggs

1218 children, 29 (2.4%) had suffered symptomatic egg allergy (20 during infancy).
Most kids with egg allergy grow out of it, but it's not a common problem for folks to worry about.
