UK Parking Patrol Office - parked on the street

                    Hi
I received a PCN from UK Parking Patrol Office, whilst I was parked on the street, no double yellows or lines of any kind. Apparently, there is a sign on the wall of one of the buildings saying no parking. I never knew of its existence (I don't live there, was just dropping something off for someone), I wasn't blocking any gates or doors, and lots of people were also parked there. It's in Manchester - Elmira Way.
Ticket reason states ' parking in a no parking area'. I've looked through the guides on this forum, but I'm still unclear what I should do as most of the advice seems to mention car parks, whereas I was on the road. What should I do?!
==========
Update 29/01/17
I sent the template from the newbies thread as recommended. Foolishly, I never sent it recorded delivery. I received a letter from UK Parking Patrol Office the day after I sent the template reply, so I figured they had crossed in the post. No big deal, I thought...
So now on 27/01/17, I have received a letter from DRP (Debt recovery Plus Ltd), saying their client has asked them to collect payment. I emailed UKPPC to ask them why they didn't reply to my letter in December, and I included the template again, in the email. I haven't replied to DRP.
Can anyone offer any advice? Should I be worried? I don't know why i didn't think to send the original reply via recorded delivery, and now I'm kicking myself.

google street view shows multiple signs all the way down that road , however streetview allows you to drive down it , suggesting that it may be adopted , check with local counsil

Thanks for the reply. If it were deemed to be a private road by the council, would you suggest I ignore, or follow the newbie appeal procedure at the top of the forum?0

Put 'Elmira Way' into the forum search box (back on the first page of this sub-forum) and choose 'this board' and you will find LOADS of threads about this notorious place.
Treat this like any other IPC rubbish and send the usual IPC 'appeal' template to show you are not ignoring it/not a victim. The response for IPC firms, shown in the NEWBIES thread.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

nothing foolish about it , we never recommend recorded delivery , because it can be refused and therefore not signed , they dont like signing because they know whats inside
free proof of posting at the P.O. counter is always recommended , nothing more, its deemed "delivered" 2 days later
as for DRP , that is covered in the NEWBIES STICKY THREAD
one word
IGNORE
its an LBC or an MCOL within 6 years that you deal with0 -

Thanks  What would you suggest I do next? I have read through the newbie thread, several times, but this bit seems unclear as to whether I should be contacting anyone.
It's pretty worrying, and not a wonder some people just pay up.0 -
maybe there is no "NEXT" step , have you considered that ?
if you read my previous answer, that is what comes next , or doesnt (after the stoopid debt collector letters)
or it may never happen , in which case there is definitely no "next"0 -
Just ignore them unless you get a solicitor's letter or court claim. Very defendable.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
