Dehumidifier

Hi all,

Got a cold wall in my kitchen that seems to build up condensation especially when cooking. We open windows etc but don't really seem to help. We start to get mould on the walls then which we got to keep cleaning. Wondering if a dehumidifier will help if place it in kitchen especially when cooking.
Anyone suggest a half decent one for under £100 please.

Thanks

Try these, just brought 2 different ones from them, a meaco junior and a devola, too soon to comment on reliabilty but the prices seemed competetive and I found a discount code on line, delivery spot on for me. So far Id use again.
  • Brilliant thanks. They expensive to run down your know. Only really want to use it when cooking to reduce the condensation on my cold wall

you would be much better getting a vented out hood or fan, If your going to use a dehumidifier it needs to run for a good while to work. They cost the same to run as a small fridge (they work the same way a fridge does)

  • Got a kitchen extract hood which we use but our wall still gets wet.

The devola is fairly low wattage so should be fairly cheap to run, the meaco one seems to get more moisture out of the air but its 330w. You could try a differny cooker extract - we have a rangemaster hood and uts carp, at our last house we had a neff built in extract and it was excellent.
  • hoods don't always vent out, they can just recirculate the air through a grease and charcoal filter which is not effective at removing moisture.

  • Will work but expensive to run.

In my book, the running cost is one of the most important deciding factors - I have to have mine going 24/7 all year because of my house. I've been doing some more research and have a spreadsheet that's half done, but as for running costs on decent machines:

Meaco 12L Low Energy is 165watts, and removes 12L per day and is suitable for a 3 bed house.
Ebac 2250e 12L is lowish energy at 180watts, and removes 12L per day and suitable for 3 bed house.
    However, I go for the:
Ebac 2650e 18L also lowish energy at 180watts, which removes 18L per day and suitable for a 5 bed house.
because for a little extra money you get much more water removing power.

These are the lowest wattage (running cost) ones that I've found so far that are good quality. I'm sure there may be others, but I haven't found any.

Also, I would never buy one without a 5yr warranty as they do go wrong - some last but some don't (I speak from experience). It's all very well buying a cheaper one with a 2yr warranty but if it goes wrong 3 weeks out of warranty you are buying another dehumidifier within the 5year period, so false economy. I've had 2 dehumidifiers that went wrong, one 3 weeks out of warranty and one within the first 2 years, so personally don't think they are built to last, but that's just my personal view.

Also Ebac have a Black Friday deal going at the moment and you get the 5 year warranty free (as I've said before, worth it's weight in gold) and free filters and casters. IF they gave the 5yr warranty as standard all the time I think they would clean up in this price range; as it is they lose out to others when cost is the deciding factor.
