no room thermostat??

I would guess that they either has it fitted then replaced the boiler and didnt bother wiring it into the new boiler (fitter may have been DIY/friend etc).
It may also be that the stat failed so they trvd the rad and disconnected the stat.
Either way, not ideal, shouldn't cost much for an engineer to wire the thing in, you could check it out first yourself to see if it is duff (should be able to hear it click at around the right temperature when you rotate the knob for a start, there will be a bit of hysteresis, ie click in at 18 off at 22, is a good indication).
You would probably get it a bit cheaper if its part of a service as its only one call out charge.0 -
Oops, repeated what Canucklehead said, sorry, must type faster next time.0

Have a room thermostat or a programmable room thermostat and save money, no ifs not buts - gospel. Isn't this what this site is supposed to be about.
To supply & fit a decent digital programmable room stat - about £125.0 -
cheers guys. explanation sounds a good 'un to me too.
I downloaded the instructions so I could top up the pressure and turn the thing on etc. When turning the roomstat there are no clicks at all ever, so I assume its b00gered as well as not being wired in.
I did see the wiring for the stat into the boiler in the installation instructions but to be honest after reading of a few people frying their boards or other expensive things I don't think I'd like to attempt it myself. I will sleep on it and reconsider though
Thanks for the advice.0 -

I have TRV's without a room thermostat. We do have a timeclock and use common sense as to when to switch the boiler off altogther. Room thermostat would be a problem as no obvious location. Living rooms have open log fires used extensively in winter (free wood) so locating there would not be appropriate. No hallway. Anyway the saving a thermostat would take a long time to save the £125 spent on installation.0 -
Hi
I think that stat will not 'click' until it has power to it.
Always fit a 3 amp fuse to the boiler supply and you should be ok.

There will be an extra thermostat internal to the boiler which will cut it off as soon as the boiler reaches a certain temperature.
The system would be *better* if fitted with a room thermostat in a room that doesn't have a TRV, but it should work OK as-is.
There should be a temperature knob on the boiler that can be adjusted up/down. Set this to about 3/4 setting and work from there.0
