Low roof - loft conversion options

Thanks everyone. Just wanted to check if there were viable alternatives. I wouldn't spend money on a conversion for the sake of it but I will make it a usable space for storage and stick a couple of Velux windows in for light.
The house is great so it's not a reason to leave but wanting to see how I can maximise the opportunities available.0 -
If you are only going to use it for storage, I wouldn't bother with the windows. Light bulbs and electricity will cost almost nothing in comparison.0

Have you scope to lower the 1st floor ceiling to gain space that way ?
How about from the master bedroom, completely remove the ceiling (with structural calcs etc considered) to give a vaulted bedroom with a couple of velux windows, and then build a half height mezzanine floor with a balustrade or something ?0 -

Popping my oar into this thread, based on your post.
We have a double roof, and would LOVE to take the ceiling out in our bedroom, looking at to the back of the house. We'd still have the 2nd loft for storage from the other roof for storage.
Has anyone done this type of thing before, and have estimate of costs?
£200? £2000? £20,000...?0 -
It would depend on what type of roof structure you had, trussed or rafter etc. Also on the layout of your home. Assuming you would be wanting to take the dividing walls between bedrooms and bathrooms full height? Avoiding smells and maintaining privacySome people don't exaggerate........... They just remember big!0

Say for example the bedroom covers the whole width of the house, so just take the ceiling off straight up. No walls to extend height of internally. Roof comes down to exterior bedroom wall, and interior bedroom wall (other 2 walls are party). If that was done, would it put a buyer off in the future? You can't convert the loft anyway as it's too small.0
