Buying a car on a private plate help!

Guys

So I'm trying to buy a car which the owner has his private plate on.

The plate doesn't go with the car and I want to drive up pick it up and drive home.

Now, the V5 / tax

He needs to take the plate off the car and wait for a new V5 to arrive first doesn't he before I can buy it?

As the V5 he has shows his private plate still

if the seller does the transfer online during normal office hours the transfer is imediate and his personal plate is off the car and the replacement number assigned

and he will get the new V5 showing the replacement number within a week , i did mine on a monday and had the new V5 in hand on thursday

he should have done this before putting the car up for sale

Yeah new V5C's appear to be getting sent out quickly. I bought a car on Monday afternoon the keeper did it online and mine arrived on the Wednesday Morning.
