Do the price of older iPhones decrease in new year?

I have an iPhone 4s, I bought it when it was launched in 2011. It was my first and so far only smartphone.

It's 16gb memory and each week I have to transfer stuff to a data stick and clean it by deleting messages and email regularly.

It's also very slow now.

I'm looking to get a brand new 6s (7 is too expensive). I want a 128gb and it costs £599 outright.

I've not kept an eye on iPhone prices over time, but did the price reduce when 7 came out? And does it traditionally reduce in new year?

I can afford to buy it now (preferable as I'm going holiday next month and rather not take separate camera) but if it reduces in new year then I may as well wait.

The price of the 6 would have been reduced when the 7 was released.

Maybe Black Friday will have some deals.
  • Hi. A slightly alternative thought! If money is a consideration (as it is with me), have you thought about upgrading to an iPhone 5s instead? Yes, this model is a couple of generations old - however you can still buy a 5s brand new from 3 for example for £249 unlocked to any network, or online at Debenhams Plus for £269 unlocked with free delivery. Many big name retailers still sell the 5s.

Compared to your 4s you would notice a HUGE difference in speed and of course the 5s benefits from a slightly larger screen, the finger print sensor that a lot apps utilise, and a much, much better camera / video camera compared to your 4s. The 5s also runs ios 10 very smoothly (the latest iPhone operating system).

If you've been putting up with a 4s for sometime then a 5s will seem like a giant leap forward. I took this exact upgrade path and it felt like I had entered a new century! Yes, the iPhone 6 / 6s / 7, would all be better phones yet again, but then you will pay a lot more to get one of these.

Also, have you looked into why your phone storage is so full? You either have hundreds of apps (doubtful) or you have hundreds or thousands of photos and videos (likely). My 5s is 16Gb. I have lots of downloaded apps HOWEVER before I took action, nearly two thirds of the storage was used by photos and videos. Simply copy these onto a computer and delete them from your phone. I can hear lots of people shouting at me now saying I am wrong, but if you are a light / average phone user (and if you are using a 4s then I would politely suggest you fall into this category!) 16Gb of storage is plenty.

Just a thought from another iPhone devotee who can't afford to upgrade!

Also see if you can get/afford an iPhone 6 SE(Special Edition)? Built on a 5 chassis, so easy on the hand, but most of the smarts of the 6, while costing a chunk less.
    I adore mine, which replaced a 4...

I note that the samsung s6 is actually £40 dearer in the high street (argos) than this time last year , dispite samsung hammering on line and tv adverts for the newer s7

    In September 2015 iPhone 6s 128GB retailed for £699.

So it's £100 cheaper now than it was back then; I'd imagine it would have been cheaper still but Apple raised their prices in light of Pound Sterling falling in value compared to the US Dollar.

Have you tried Factory Reset to see if it improves things? If no luck, why stick to Apple? You can get many Android phones for under £200 that will do everything you use your iPhone for and you can get skins like iPhone

I had a Xiaomi for just under 5 years, cost me £200 in 2011. Replaced it a few months ago for a newer Xiaomi for £115, case is damn smart looking too imo http://pasteall.org/pic/show.php?id=110581
