Just had a phone call and am going for second interview tomorrow. She said she doesn't normally do second interviews but she was impressed with a couple of people and is having trouble narrowing it down. She is getting the Area Manager in tomorrow for their views.

She said it will just be an informal chat and not to worry about dressing up. She said I could just go in jeans if I wanted although not sure I will.

Pleased that I wasn't discounted straight away and fingers crossed now it goes well tomorrow

your bit of a risk as u not been working for 4 years, i would think you would have a better chance doing some voluntary work first,
anyway the interview experience will help.

only just seen this thread, but wanted to add as an employer, it doesn't necessarily put someone off. Particularly as you get older, there are lots of reasons for having a gap in your work history.

That is great news catkins - keeping ng my fingers crossed for you tomorrow!

Don't think I'd go in jeans, maybe not trouser suit either but smart casual (black trouser, smart shoes and nice blouse).

Also, always remember that, no matter his informal it sounds, it's always an interview - it's much easier to say something silly in informal situations.

Great news. And yeah, better to overdress than underdress in these situations I think. Good luck :)

Well I got the job!!!! I am over the moon.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to comment on this thread and to give me advice.

I didn't wear jeans. I put them on and decided I just felt scruffy even though they are new jeans. I wore smart black trousers, a blouse that is reasonably smart and smart shoes. I figured if I felt too casual I would not be in the right mindset.

Anyway it was just a chat. I only got asked 1 proper question which were "what does good customer service mean to me" which I find easy to answer. She also why I had not worked for 4 years but was obviously happy with my answer.

I start on Monday and am feeling quite excited
