If you have time, a 9 year old will love the hands on bit of the science museum. Can't remember the age at which kids grow out of dinosaurs, but if still in that stage the the natural history museum is great.

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to brave the number 15 bus. I realise Stratford is a little further out but it's a last minute trip so not much availability left. I'm gonna have to brace myself for Lego shop, he won't be swayed don't know whether to try as soon as they open on Sunday or early afternoon on Saturday. We've booked skating for Hyde park so need to be there 6pm on Saturday. Just to clarify we only swipe on entry with the bus but swipe on entry and exit with the tube? With contactless and oysters.

That's correct. It's a no brainer really as on the tube you have to swipe on exit to open the barriers. The only time you might get caught out is if the barriers are left open for some reason - don't just walk through, still swipe your card otherwise you'll get charged maximum fare.

Remember you can also use Oyster / contactless on National Rail services within the Oyster zones.

If there's a rail strike when you visit, do check on how that affects Oyster vs.contactless card refunds as I think the Oyster card might be better in such a situation. Not sure but worth checking.
