P60

Despite being relatively organised I seem to have managed to lose my P60 that I received just a few weeks ago. My question is can I get another copy from the Inland Revenue?

Also I am just about to make a claim for tax credits do I just need three months wage slips?

Not sure. A few years ago the secretary at my workplace used to give us out our P60 with a note attached that said 'please keep in safe place as you will not receive a duplicate if lost'. This is a few years ago though(and she might not have been correct!).

Re-tax credits- I don't know if 3 months wage slips will do(cos it's based on your annual income) but a couple of years ago I needed a years worth of wage slips in order to claim Maternity Allowance and I was a couple missing. I rang my(ex) employers HO wage dept, and they sent me the duplicates of the missing slips FOC.

The Inland Revenue do not issue P60's to anyone.

The P60 is produced by the employer and is a copy of the P14 which the employer is legally required to send to the Inland Revenue by the end of May. This is how the IR is informed of how much you earned and how much tax and national insurance was deducted by your employer during the previous tax year.

So I guess you need to contact your previous employer...

They would have torn off one a copy of your P60 and kept the original for there own records.....so they probably won't be wanting to give you away their original copy.......

Well an employer is not allowed to give a copy. so basically I cannot claim tax credits because I lost y P60 seems a bit unfair

I'm not sure...........just going on that previous post....

I know it sounds and if it is true IS RIDICULOUS that a simple form cannot be duplicated......

I don't know if the following number is off any use to you...

    Tax Credits
    0845 300 3900 Weekdays 8:00am to 8:00pm
    Saturday 8:00am to 8:00pm
    Sunday 8:00am to 8:00pm
Bank Holidays Open For information about Tax Credits, including Working Tax Credits and Child Tax

Maybe you could ask them on how to progress further....

Another tip is if you go here.....

    http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/enq/index.htm

type in your postcode and find you local office where you could go and speak to someone in person. The people at theses offices are normally very good....

Employers were not allowed to give out copies of P60s but that all changed this year and they now can, but in reality I would not think many employers keep copies. I do the wages for a small company 25 employees and do not keep copies there are just 3 produced the forms come in packs of 3. 2 go to the tax office and 1 to the employee, and then the records are cleared before processing of the new year starts, so it may not be possible to get a copy.

I didn't know employers weren't allowed to give copies of P60s. But then I've never had to ask for one ...

because although our payslips etc are dealt with elsewhere, the payslips and P60s are all sent to us, and we take a copy before giving them out. So if anyone (including me) wants a copy, we all know where to look!

I know, I know, it's possible to see what everyone else is being paid, but we're all so transparent we don't really care!

Back to the OP: certainly for my son's student loan application I have a choice of sending a P60 or the final payslip of the year, which contains pretty much the same information. Certainly worth seeing if that will do.

But you should be able to obtain all the information needed I'm sure on your week 52/53 payslip. As its end of year.

Absolutely. The P60 is just the sure-fire place where you can find the info you need to apply for TCs. You don't actually need the P60 to claim - you don't have to produce any documentation at all. You can the figure from your payslip, from your employer or just estimate it yourself.

The figure you give for last years income is the basis for the provisional award only, so it doesn't actually matter if it is a bit out. It is the final figure for 05/06 income which you put on your renewal form after the end of the tax year that is the important - this is the one HMRC will check. Just don't lose your P60 next year and you'll be OK.

hii .i think i have answer to your problem .few weeks ago i lost my p60 and i contacted the IR and basically told them i cant find my p60.they said that the employer cant issue another p60 but they can give "statementof earning". basically a "unofficial" p60.I got one and i sent it to the inland revenue and they seems to be fine with it.so just call your former employers ask them to give you that.dont wont worry if you left on bad terms.they are abliged to give you one.
are you thinking what iam thinking :T

My P60 was sent to my parents' address and my mum sent it back to me in May. However, it hasn't arrived here so I hope a statement of earnings will do the trick.
