compulsory DWP interview, advice please

A letter arrived in the post today stating the following:

We're reviewing your benefits and circumstances
You must come to an office interview

Dear _________
We need to talk to you about some changes that may affect your benefit payments. You must be available for this interview and have all the information listed on page 1 and 2 with you .... if you're not available for this interview your benefit payments will stop.

Has anyone else received a letter like this, if so what is it about, please? Is there anything we need to do/take?

It will be a benefit review by a compliance officer.

Clearly you need to take whatever it asks for on page 1 & 2 as it states.
  • Has anyone been to one of these 'benefit reviews' before?

You need to take bank statements and ID normally with you to the interview to show you only get money from DWP and not some other source, They generally ask you questions about your life and claim...

A bit of advice don't try hide anything even if you have bank accounts you have never used with DWP they are still able to check... If you do the following happens...

If you fail to satisfy the adviser reviewing your benefit then you are then sent to a compliance officer who will take you into a room and read you your rights before basically interrogating you, All the information recorded is then sent to the benefit delivery centre and it basically gets processed and they decide the outcome, I.e. a civil fine £50, prosecution, sanction or warning, benefit deduction to pay back any over payments.

Hopefully you won't need to worry about all that, I'm just being a pessimist....

This guide is about an interview under caution - not what you are facing, but it may be informative:

Information of some sort has come to light which makes them concerned about the accuracy or completeness of the details they currently hold. That is why they need to speak to you. When there is doubt about entitlement it will be suspended for two reasons (1) to prevent potential overpayment (2) to ensure that the claimant does attend the interview.
As long as you have been totally honest from the outset, and provided updates if there have been any changes in your circumstances, there is nothing to worry about.
  • Interesting, thanks.

No mention has been made of needing to take bank statements (only as a possible form of ID). It only says to take ID with you.

If you are honest you have nothing to worry about.
