Help: Lost V5 Selling Vehicle
I'm sure this must have been asked before, but I'm in the process of selling an old car but I've just realised I've misplaced the log book. I've got a buyer interested but not sure I should sell without the V5 . Any advice on this, would it be safe to sell, if buyer is willing to take? Can he still get it taxed and insured without the V5?

i wouldnt buy or sell a vehicle without the V5 present
if you sell that car before you receive the replacement V5 then you are taking a big risk, the buyer drives off and triggers every speed camera between your house and wherever he is going you are the registered keeper so they are going to come to you first and it is then you that has the hassle of proving it is not you that was driving
the buyer may be happy to take the car as is but why?, mabeye he has no intention of registering the car in his name and will run it untaxed and uninsured, the car could be used for criminal activities and when the heat is on the police will be knocking on your door0 -
Give you £20 for it without the logbook.
They will have to purchase a new logbook and wait for it to arrive before they can tax it and legally drive it away from yours.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

"You can sell or scrap your car even if you don’t have the V5C. Just send a signed letter to DVLA outlining the vehicle’s registration number, make, model, the date of sale and the new keeper’s details."
Hmmm, increases a few risks but doesn't seem to be illegal.0 -

Some forums have mentioned buyer can tax and apply for the V5 at the post office. Not sure if its been changed recently.0 -

You can just transfer the ownership online now anyway, no need to send the old log book into dvla anymore. Can do it while the new owner is there0

Any decent buyer would walk away, I would not be impressed on viewing the car and finding out no V5C, as I just wasted my time as would have preferred to know before.
Also they cannot tax it as no V5C ref number.0
