Extended Displays

My laptop running Win 10 has an additional monitor attached
laptop being 1 & monitor 2.

Under display settings I have 'extended display'

I have tried changing to show on 1 but that just turns off the monitor (2)

I usually have desktop icons on 1 but recently these have moved to 2

How do I reverse these?

Shutdown the laptop
Unplug the monitor
Start up the laptop (wait until fully started)
Plug in the monitor
If the desktop icons jump to the monitor, drag them back to the laptop
Shutdown the laptop
Start up the laptop - hopefully all is back to normal

RIGHT click on desktop, choose display settings
scroll down to advanced settings, click the icon of your main monitor and choose the option to set it as your main monitor.
(You can also click and drag the monitor icons to new positions eg left to right etc)
