Earning Clubcard Points paying Barclaycard with Tesco Debit Card

Options
Has anyone any experience of paying off the amount owed on a Barclaycard credit card with a Tesco Bank debit card ?

Does this transaction earn you clubcard points ?

Thanks in advance

    From their website...
Other transactions where Clubcard points can’t be collected:
    • If you use your debit card to pay for bills at banks or other financial institutions

All to do with MCCs I'd imagine.

    Thanks for your reply.

I assume this is the same for paying HMRC too (a tax bill) ?

Has anyone experience of this and whether this is actually the case ?

HMRC is a financial institution as mentioned in the item quoted above.

I believe the point is that points are only earned on purchases (including those of services), as opposed to money transfers.

If extra Clubcard points are wanted, probably more productive to shop at Tesco, produce your Tesco Clubcard and use Partnership Card (John Lewis Finance) to pay. You get 1 Clubcard point for every pound and 1 John Lewis / Waitrose point for every two pounds spent.

While you can collect Clubcard points on most of your debit card transactions, there are some exceptions, including: payments from your current account (like standing orders and Direct Debits), in-store cash or cheque deposits, and refunds.
Other transactions where Clubcard points can’t be collected:
    • If you use your debit card to pay for bills at banks or other financial institutions
    • When you use your card to get cash. This includes cashback, in-store cash withdrawals and withdrawing cash at an ATM.
    • It also includes gambling, purchasing travel money, wire transfers and purchasing foreign currency.
For some products at Tesco, you'll only earn one Clubcard point for every £4 you spend.
