cancelling insurance for new
Hi all, looking at changing my car so spoke to my insurance for a rough quote on a car that i liked before i really start to look into buying one.
They came back and said the underwriters wouldn't insure due to car group and my age (car is group 43 and am 34 years old), they mentioned i would have to cancel my current policy and take a new one out.
I asked if i would need to declare that i have had insurance cancelled in the future if i went along with cancelling my current policy to any future insurance policys and she said the following
" You would not have to do this as you are requesting the cancellation you only have to declare a cancellation if the insurance company has cancelled or voided your policy." is this correct ?
thank you.

Yes, this is correct.
You don't have to declare that you have been "refused insurance" either, they just declined/wouldn't offer to cover that car
You can't just post "yes" as a reply

I had a similar issue when younger, I went from a group 3/4 car to a group 20 car which was the highest group back then.
Insurance wouldnt touch it, but had no issues going elsewhere and i did mention my previous company wouldnt insure that vehicle and they said thats not a problem and not needed to be declared.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Okay, that's great... bit of piece of mind.. can get on with car hunting now. :-)0

Been looking ato a few other cars and doing an online quote can get it reasonable prices on a new policy, as am only 3 months into my current one if my current insurers come back with the increase too much much am I able to just cancel my current policy with 9 years no claims and start a new one.
But if I did this am I right in thinking that as I have cancelled a policy I still don't have to declare this to new insurance company ?
Just want to understand the correct procedure and not shoot myself in the foot.
Thanks0 -
The question is (usually) "Have you ever had a policy cancelled or declared void". If you've cancelled it you haven't had it cancelled.0

If you had nine years no claims before the current policy started then yes. You will not get any no claims for this year obviously.Been looking ato a few other cars and doing an online quote can get it reasonable prices on a new policy, as am only 3 months into my current one if my current insurers come back with the increase too much much am I able to just cancel my current policy with 9 years no claims and start a new one.

As long as you have not claimed on your current policy that is, in which case you would be liable for full cost of the policy.
You may also consider asking how much it is to settle the current insurance and if that makes a difference as that may drive a new policy up over the cost of their increase.0
