Midland Bank ppi 1991/2?

Hi, I took out a loan around 1991/92 with the Midland Bank in town. It came at a time when the factory I work at (still here to this day) were in the news for laying off workers, hence the manager who approved the loan made me take out ppi, even though I stipulated I didn't want the policy as I knew my job was safe ( I am still working in the same job)
The loan was for a car that I had put down a deposit for at auction and felt pressured into taking out the ppi with the loan as I needed to pay the remaining sum of money within 5 working days and didn't have time to shop around. Midland Bank was where I banked at the time.
I have since written to hsbc to try and claim ppi back but they said they have no record of the loan even though I gave them the actual account number the loan was paid from.
Does anyone think I have a case to appeal?

Appeal what?
They have told you that they have no record of your loan in 1991/2. That was 25 years ago. So, not unexpected. It also pre-dates the data protection act. So, records from that era would have been amongst the first to be culled in the early years of the data protection act.
You have an account number but that by itself doesnt give them enough info. It may well show you had a loan but it may not show whether you had PPI or not. HSBC have told you that they have no record of the loan and therefore no record of whether you had PPI or not.
If you don't believe them then you can spend £10 and do a data subject access request. Or you can supply them the documentary evidence you hold showing you had a loan with PPI. Which like HSBC, you probably haven't got.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Thanks for the reply, it's just frustrating knowing I had to take out the insurance on the loan even though I didn't want too.0

Have you got any documents relating to the loan e.g. bank statement showing direct debit payments?
Do you only have the Midland Bank account number? Loans usually have their own individual reference number which if you can locate it, can sometimes help the lender search their archives for details about other financial products you took out with them.
When did you stop banking with the Midland? I have read about other customers who say this bank can search back to the 1990's if you were a customer within the last seven years.0
