Been using Thunderbird for a couple of years or so.
Had a few little problems but nothing major.
Today about 20 emails have just vanished from my inbox.
The last straw........
What free alternatives are there ??

Did you check via webmail that they have really gone?
I've had a modicum of success introducing some people to http://www.emclient.com/
(but still get the odd "how do I compose email" when there's a big orange compose button...)

why not, if the op has another device/client that he has deleted the mails knowingly or not from there ?
e.g. i have TB on my pc , and the same mail address on my phone when I delete from my phone they disappear from TB too. ( except that i move stuff from my TB to a local folder first and i never delete anything via the phone unless it is junk)

Gmail. Get a Google account, if you have an Android phone you can have thempaired to work together, using Google Drive and My Drive. I take pics on my phone and transfer them seamlessly to the PC.
I think this job really needs
