FedEx invoice for HMRC charge 2 weeks after delivery

  • Your grievance should be with yourself.

You should have read the section of the website regarding shipping, then you would have seen the quote posted above. You could have then contacted the company prior to purchase and asked where they ship from so you could have looked at the options. Those being:-

    1) Allow FedEx to pay the customs fee and invoice you, allowing a quick delivery

    2) Asked the company to make the package as "Not for customs clearance". You could have then travelled down to the hub where the item was imported, completed paperwork and dealt directly with customs.

    3) Shopped elsewhere

You were the importer, so should have been aware of the various options available.

Don't know how true it is, but i've read stories online of delivery companies claiming the money they have paid to HMRC back as they have not received it from the importer. Its then for HMRC to chase for the money.
  • @dj1471 Sigh. I suspected as much. I was wondering about FedEx's use of debt collectors. Realistically it's no issue to pay them, but the way they have gone about it (I've not had this situation before; I'had imports held at customs and not released/delivered until I paid the duty, but never a company paying the duty for me and then whacking me with a much larger bill after the fact) definitely sticks in my craw. Looks like I'm paying up.
  • If you don't want to pay, then you can always send it back.
What if I no longer want the shipment?
How do I reject the shipment?
To be classed as a rejected import, your shipment must comply with the following HM Revenue and Customs criteria:The goods are defective, were damaged before clearing HM Revenue and Customs or do not comply with the suppliers terms and conditions of contract.
    • All claims must be made before the goods are returned or destroyed.
    • All claims must be made within 12 months of the original entry to HM Revenue and Customs.
You will need to pay any Duties and Taxes to FedEx, and process a claim directly with HM Revenue and Customs to reject your shipment.

@indextwo ... this topic seems to appear here at least every month. If it had been Parcel Force (I think) doing the delivery, the goods would have sat with them until you paid the customs charge - they won't deliver until it is paid. You would still have had a handling fee on top too.

But... None of those criteria apply and that won't result in a refund of the FedEx handling charge, which is the bulk of it.
  • @DoaM ....which is weird, because I did search specifically for this before posting, but came up blank. I guess I wasn't searching for the right thing.

I've sucked it up and paid, so I guess the question is moot now. Thanks for all the replies. I'll try to be more careful and less idiotic next time.

@wealdroam As implied, I didn't stumble across that section until after the fact (more fool me for not reading through all the FAQs before placing the order, I guess). But, also as mentioned, the company itself does not appear to be based in China. As far as I can determine they are based in Switzerland.
Are you getting the Swiss connection from their T&Cs where it says:
    2. Data of the proprietor of the Website https://www.tailor4less.com

    AFT GmbH
    Buchhaldenstrasse, 1
    8301 - Kloten
    Switzerland
    CH-02040402173

I would suggest that that address is only who runs the website on behalf of the company.
This view is reinforced by the Swiss company's registration:
    purpose
The purpose of the company is to provide administrative services to other companies in the field of trade, import and export of flexible hoses of all kinds and for all applications, including accessories. The company can also purchase and sell clothes, as well as accessories.
(translation from German to English via Google translate)
...although perhaps that last sentence could cover it.

I cannot find the address for tailor4less though.
