Just did it... but what do I do about upcoming court date?

Well I just pressed the button on BR. Thought I'd feel better but still feel slightly ill. I wanted to do it before I have to be in court with some horrific lawyers next Thursday. (They are one of the biggest reason I have to do BR).

Do I need to tell them before the court date or should I just show up and explain? (I'm going regardless - threatened with jail time if I don't.)

Massive thank you to everyone on this forum for their help and support - I couldn't have done it without you. Feel like crying now but hopefully after speaking to the OR it will feel better.

Thanks again!

  • Well done OP. I have no idea of the correct course of action with regards the court, but I do know you deserve a cup of tea and a slice of cake for getting things done. Just keep hanging on there.

Sorry everyone I didn't get notification of your posts. The court case is one of the straws that broke the camels back. It's a long story. Almost 2 years ago an emotionally abusive relationship I was in ended. My ex was an utter !!!!!!!. Made us homeless, and then filed for A restraining order against me & tried to have my daughter removed from me (the first was thrown out & the second ignored). I used a lawyer to help. When they asked for a £2k retainer I told them I didn't have that kind of money, and they said they'd see what they can do. I should have clarified but it was a distressing time. They then presented me with a bill for £5.5k. I tried to talk to them but they ignored me and then asked for the lot. They sent it to small claims, I saught advice and offered £1/month until my situation changed. They accepted; and then about a week later there was confusion about a predated summons. They then trolled my social media & called me back to court to answer questions based on my posts. I don't want to post details as it could out me, but I can answer their claims (with proof) about the big things (nothing untoward as they've suggested) and the small ones are petty. (I posted a pic with some flowers from the garden & they've asked how much I spend on cut flowers every month for example.)

I will be attending court but I just wondered how much I need to worry I guess. I'm hoping now I've had BR approved that over rides all else?
  • Your bankruptcy will include any debt for solicitors costs and fees.

A word to the Facebook, Twitter, even MSE etc users, be mindful on the above that social media can and will form an increasing element in evidence to disprove statements and accounts. Powers exist for both HMCTS/CPS and the IS to apply without your knowledge to have records released. Privacy settings are your friend, but if you are an attention !!!!! that must post their every feeling, thought and opinion for the world to see, it will come back to haunt you one day if you are dishonest. The number of likes you receive won't take the sting out of the punishment meted out.

I agree - fortunately(?) for me they have made MASSIVE assumptions about my life which I can prove aren't true but they do troll and its totally legal.
